What are the benefits of self pay for therapy?
When a client uses their health insurance for therapy, their insurance provider requires access to client records, mandates what must be disclosed in notes, regulates diagnoses, and dictates type or length of treatment.
Often times, clients are denied coverage because insurance does not think you need therapy or wants you to be given a particular diagnosis. These companies will limit the number of sessions you can have or require you to only have a certain type of therapy. This should never be the decision of someone who has never met you and does not have appropriate mental health training or experience.
When you pay out of pocket, you are guaranteed complete control and privacy over your own treatment. No one else will see your confidential information, and your treatment will not be directed by an insurance company.
You should feel safe to discuss your identity, personal choices, and life experience with your therapist. No third party should be able to access your most personal details. Privacy and confidentiality is essential to the therapeutic relationship and will always be protected in our sessions.
Good Faith Estimate
According to the No Surprises Act (2022), you have the right to know your expected costs for healthcare services so that you may make informed decisions regarding your care. Radical Serenity believes in financial transparency and will not charge any hidden fees.
Under this law, healthcare providers are required to give patients who are not using insurance an estimate of their bill for medical services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
For questions or more information about your rights under the Good Faith Estimate, please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

When beginning therapy, weekly 60-minute sessions are most effective. This helps create consistency, accountability, and the ability to measure progress. Many clients find this helpful for the first 3-6 months. Once you feel confident in your progress, sessions are typically reduced to every other week. The timeline looks different for everyone, and we will collaborate together on ensuring your therapy is most effective for you.
-
Clients are able to schedule sessions via their own client portal. You can schedule week to week or a few weeks out. If you prefer meeting at the same day/time every week, I can block that time for you as long as you show up for your sessions. We can also discuss different scheduling options during our consultation call.

Cancellations and rescheduled sessions will be subject to a full charge if not received at least 24 hours in advance. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time. If you are able to reschedule within the same week, the late cancellation fee will be waived.
